hp envy 7640 wont scan but prints and scanner bar moves

I understand your HP Envy 7640 printer is not scanning but is able to print and you can see the scanner bar moving, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

 

  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Turn off the printer, wait for about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Check Connection: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer and to the network (if it's a network printer). For USB-connected printers, try using a different USB port on your computer.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can cause scanning issues. Go to the HP support website, enter your printer model (HP Envy 7640), and download the latest drivers and software for Windows 11. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, a diagnostic tool provided by HP that can automatically diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. HP Print and Scan Doctor
  • Check for Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows 11 operating system is up to date. Sometimes, Windows updates include fixes for printer-related issues.
  • Reinstall Printer Software: Uninstall the printer software completely from your computer and then reinstall it using the latest drivers downloaded from the HP website. This can help refresh the printer's connection and settings.
  • Check Scanner Settings: Ensure that the scanner settings are correctly configured. Open the HP Smart app or HP Scan software on your computer, and check the scanner settings to make sure they match your desired scan preferences.
  • Check for Hardware Issues: If none of the above steps work, there may be a hardware issue with the scanner itself.
