I have recently purchased an HP printer model 8610.  I would like to scan double sided from the top feeder can any one help, please

Thank you Brian.  I did everything you said and it did finally scan in duplex and I saved it.  Problem is that when I printed it,

it came out in two pages not one with two sides.  Why did I just assume it would print this way.  Thanks for helping.

Most of the printer options have a radio button or pull down that allows you to choose to print single or double sided.

In Adobe Reader, I have the single/double sided print option under the Properties menu that shows up on the top of the screen after you do the File->Print.  Properties->Print on Both Sides "(Pull Down menu). Generally I select "Flip on Long Edge"

For Word 2013, the option is on the main page and is labeled "Print One Sided" if you have not changed it. The pull down menu will allow you to select "Print on Both Sides" and Flip on long edge or short edge.

I assume it is based on what version of the printer software/drivers you are using. The 8600 has done a great job for me with respect to double sided printing. It sometimes takes a little searching for the double sided button, but it has always been there on my computer.

Hope it helps. Good luck.

I believe that the HP 8610 is a replacement for the HP 8600 Pro which does" not" have a duplex automatic document feeder (ADF). According to HP's website, the HP 8610 does have automatic duplex printing, but it does not have a duplex feeder.

You could try the procedures in Message #8 for making double sided scans on the single sided ADF. It does require a little manual intervention halfway through, but it is possible on the 8600.  The same procedures may work on the 8610. I am afraid that would be the only option, if it even applies to the 8610, but it is not really too bad.

I was very upset when I realized that the 8600 Pro did not have a duplex ADF, but I have actually been satisfied with results of the manual process. That said, HP should have their hands slapped for advertising the double sided printer that has a feeder without stating in BIG BOLD letters that only the printing is duplex. It fooled me, and it apparently fooled a lot of other people.

Hello Greg,

The HP 8600 Pro can SCAN duplex, but not Auto Feed Duplex.

In other words, you can take a two sided document and scan both sides manually and by setting the COPY to the setting of 1 Sided Original to 2 Sided Copy you can copy a two-sided document to a two sided copy.

You can also print on two sides.

What the HP 8600 Pro CANNOT do is take documents from the Auto Feeder and copy them automatically in Duplex mode.

In other words, the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) is NOT duplex.  Everything else is, the printer, the software, but you don't have ADF Duplex.

I hope that makes you feel better.

The HP Officejet Pro 8600 does duplex scan from the computer by feeding the document from the top, then selecting the checkbox "scan both sides (duplex)".   The document ends up in the computer.  What I can't find is how to duplex scan to a USB device. Anybody know if that's possible?

How do I get proper software to run the scanning on my HP OfficeJet 8600 Pro? I have downloaded and installed from HP's website "The Full Feature Software and driver solution, the complete software solution intended for users who want more than just a basic drivers." Nevertheless, under "settings" - "Devices" -"Devices and printers - "Start Scan" (Windows10) I only get very few options (no pdf, no duplex). I get much better options when running HP Support Assistant, including pdf and duplex via the feeder. But it is rather clumsy and cumbersome to have to run the diagnostic tool every time you need to scan!

Sorry, I meant "HP Print and Scan Doctor" instead of HP Support Assistant
