The scanner keeps disconnecting to the computer so I can not scan by pushing scan to the computer on the printer.  I keep getting messages that the scanner is not activated and lost the connection to the network.  I can scan if you initiate it from the computer.

Hi @tedsommers,

I'd like to help!

Let's try a power reset on the printer

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Enable scanning to a computer (Windows)

  1. Open the HP Printer Assistant. Windows 10: From the Start menu, click All Apps, click HP, and then select the printer name. ...
  2. Go to the Scan section.
  3. Select Manage Scan to Computer.
  4. Click Enable.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I've done all that with no luck.  I have also created a nr=ew port connection which worked for a few minutes.  HP tells me it's a computer issue but is unwilling to to troubleshoot even though the printer is 5 weeks old.  They referred me to software help which is a charged service,

Let's try and uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

--->In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

--->Select your HP printer.

--->Select Uninstall.

--->In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

--->In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

--->Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

--->Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

--->Click on the Drivers tab.

--->Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

--->Select OK.

--->Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

--->Close Devices and Printers.

And then reinstall the printer full-featured drivers from the software and drivers page

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
