Hi @DaveH50

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

Please try these steps:

If hpscan.exe has stopped saving files properly after scanning with your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Restart the Printer and Computer:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve communication issues between the printer and your computer.

2. Check Printer Connections:

  • Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your network (if using Wi-Fi) or via USB.
  • If using Wi-Fi, try connecting the printer directly with a USB cable to see if the issue persists.

3. Update HP Software:

  • Ensure that you have the latest version of the HP software installed. You can download the latest drivers and software from the HP Support website.

4. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool, which can help diagnose and fix common printing and scanning issues.

5. Check File Save Settings:

  • When you scan, make sure that the destination folder is set correctly.
  • In the HP scanning software, check the settings to see if a specific location is set for saved files.

6. Check Permissions:

  • Ensure that the folder you are trying to save to has the necessary permissions. Right-click the folder, select Properties, and check under the Security tab.

7. Reinstall HP Software:

  • Uninstall the current HP software from your computer, then reinstall it. This can resolve any issues with corrupted files or settings.

8. Scan with Windows Fax and Scan:

  • As a temporary workaround, you can try using Windows Fax and Scan:
    • Open Windows Fax and Scan from the Start menu.
    • Click on New Scan and follow the prompts.

9. Check for Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your Windows is up to date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for any available updates.

10. Check for Conflicting Software:

  • Some third-party applications might interfere with the scanning process. If you have any security or scanning software, try temporarily disabling it to see if that resolves the issue.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
