Hi @jazmine1234, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP printer/scanner cannot find your computer as a scan destination, making it impossible to scan directly to your files, let's try these troubleshooting steps to help them "see" each other again. Imagine we're opening up a clear communication channel between your devices! 😉 Try these actions: 👇
Check Connection
- For USB Connection: Ensure the USB cable is properly connected to both the printer and computer. Try a different USB port.
- For Wireless Connection: Ensure both your printer and computer are on the same Wi-Fi network. Restart your router if needed.
- For Ethernet Connection: Ensure the Ethernet cable is properly plugged in and both devices are on the same network.
Enable Scan to Computer (HP Smart)
- Open HP Smart on your computer.
- Look for an option like "Scan to Computer" and enable it.
- If using HP Smart, go to Settings > Scan Settings, and check if your computer is listed.
Restart Print Spooler & WIA Services (Windows)
- Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Find Print Spooler and Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) services.
- Right-click each one, select Restart, and try scanning again.
Use HP Scan Doctor (Windows)
- Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor to detect and fix issues.
Reinstall HP Drivers & Software
- Uninstall HP printer software from Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program.
- Go to HP's official website, download and install the latest drivers.
- Restart your computer and try scanning again.
Try Windows Built-in Scan App
- Open Windows Scan app (Windows Key > Type Scan > Open).
- Select your printer and try scanning.
Check Firewall & Security Software
- Some security software may block communication between your printer and computer.
- Temporarily disable firewall/antivirus and try scanning.
I truly hope these comprehensive and sensory-detailed troubleshooting steps help you get your HP printer/scanner finding your computer as a scan destination again! 🥳🖨️➡️💻😊
Take care, and have a wonderfully scanning-enabled day! ☀️📄😊
