Hi @butch46,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Scanning with an HP Deskjet 2542 printer is a straightforward process. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you scan a document or image using your HP Deskjet 2542.

Prepare the Scanner: Make sure your HP Deskjet 2542 is powered on and connected to your computer via a USB cable or wirelessly through a Wi-Fi network.

Load the Document or Image: Place the document or image you want to scan face down on the scanner glass. Make sure it's aligned properly with the corner guides.

Start the Scanning Software:

  • If you have the HP software installed on your computer, you can usually find it in the HP folder in your programs or applications list.
  • If you don't have the HP software, you can use the built-in scanning capabilities of your computer. On Windows, you can use Windows Scan, and on macOS, you can use the Preview app.

Select Scan Settings:

  • If using HP software, open it and follow the on-screen prompts to select scan settings such as color mode, resolution, and file type. These options can vary depending on the specific software version.
  • If using the built-in scanning software, select your scanner as the scanning source, and configure the settings accordingly.

Preview the Scan:

  • Use the scanning software to preview the document or image. This will give you a preview of what the scanned image will look like.

Adjust Scan Area:

  • If necessary, adjust the scan area to fit the content you want to scan. You can usually drag the selection box to include only the part you want to scan.

Initiate the Scan:

  • Click the "Scan" or "Start" button in the scanning software to start the scanning process.

Save the Scan:

  • Once the scan is complete, you'll be prompted to save the scanned document or image. Choose a location on your computer to save the file and give it a name.

Review the Scanned File:

  • Open the saved file to ensure the scan meets your expectations.

That's it! You have successfully scanned a document or image using your HP Deskjet 2542.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
