OfficeJet Pro 9010 series printer

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 printer with iCloud mail server configured, which has been functioning effectively for both Scan to Email and Alerts over the past few years.

The configuration details are as follows:

- Server: smtp.mail.me.com
- Port: 587
- SSL: Enabled
- User: My iCloud email address
- Password: An app-specific password generated within my Apple ID account

However, recently, the Scan to Email functionality stopped operating, whereas Alerts continue to function seamlessly using the same settings.

Upon attempting to send a test email through the Scan to Mail configuration page, the system responded with a generic error message: "System fault," devoid of further elaboration.

I generated a new app-specific password, which successfully enabled Alerts but failed to restore functionality for Scan to Mail.

Any insights or suggestions on resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same issue turns out the SMTP server wont work with any of your iCloud emails other then the one that ends in @iCloud.com I have @me.com and @Mac.com as well as custom domains that I use but the only one that would allow the printer to send email was the @iCloud.com  along with the app specific password.

Hope this helps!

I am using the @icloud.com email as user name, works for Email Alerts, but not Scan to Email.

I would suggest going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and making sure you're using the correct email ending in @iCloud.com. My account has 7 emails in there and they all work for everything else except for the printers send scan to email function. The only other thing I can think that would be causing it would be under the email address setting you need to use the same email as the SMTP user ID. I have attached a screen shot of my scan to email settings.

Thank you for your assistance, but unfortunately, the suggestion provided did not resolve the issue. Despite having a custom email domain linked to my iCloud mail account, I continue to use the original @icloud.com email address as my username. While this setup has successfully functioned for Scan to Email functionality in the past, it appears to no longer be effective, despite still functioning for Settings/Email Alerts.

I have the exact same issue... same printer... using @icloud.com email address.  Scan to email worked perfectly up until a couple weeks ago, then got the network failure message.  I tried issuing a new app specific password from apple, but it did not help.  Still get the failure.  Something must have changed either on Apple's side or on HP's side... but I have been unable to find it.

It began functioning once more, although I'm uncertain of the exact steps I took to resolve the issue. I suspect it may have been related to the Web services, which had never been enabled on EWS. Several days ago, a message appeared on the LED panel of the printer prompting me to enable Web services. Initially, I selected "No," but the message persisted even after restarting the printer. Eventually, I opted to enable it, but encountered an error stating it couldn't connect to an HP server. Upon checking EWS, I found that Web services were indeed enabled, so I disabled them. Subsequently, Scan to Email started working again.
