Hi @KiwiNY,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
A vertical line down the middle of a scanned page on your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 usually indicates an issue with the scanner glass or ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) rather than the printer driver or Windows 11.
Here’s the recommended troubleshooting process:
Step-by-Step Fix
1. Clean the Scanner Glass and ADF Strip
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the scanner lid.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with glass cleaner (never spray directly on glass).
- Clean:
- Main scanner glass.
- White backing under the lid.
- ADF strip (narrow glass strip on the left side).
- Dry thoroughly.
2. Clean ADF Rollers
- Open the ADF cover.
- Wipe rollers with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.
- Let them dry completely.
3. Run Scanner Calibration
- On the printer:
- Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Scanner or Calibrate Scanner.
- Alternatively, use HP APP: 👉 HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site
4. Test with Flatbed vs ADF
- Scan a page using the flatbed.
- Then scan using the ADF.
- If the line only appears with ADF, the strip or rollers need more cleaning or replacement.
5. Update Firmware & Drivers
- Download latest updates: 👉 HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer series | HP® Support
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
