hp officejet 4500 g510n
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

using the adf on my hp4500 for scanning a document returns the final product with a longdark artifact. I cleaned the glass, which is pristine. the artifact happens onlyl when using the adf. i cleaned the adf area including the plastic strip which i observed having gouge marks which cannot be cleaned off.

i would like to purchase a new plastic strip. i live in the state of new hampshire and would appreciate any recommendations. in spite of the age of this device, it works rather well for me. i am too cheap to have to invest in another AiO with adf (automatic document feeder)

First, I commend you for considering repair as opposed to "toss and replace".

In general, consumer printers just don't provide the "fix in the field" (repair at home) options that are more readily available on the business class Laser printers that are frequently deployed to home offices or businesses.

What does that mean?

Parts other than the basic things needed to keep the printer in service (ink, cables, maybe a power supply) are not available to the likes of you and me (regular people who purchase and use printers).

I did find a parts list (using one of the Product numbers for your printer) -- most of the parts listed are not available from HP and even those parts listed may not include the item you seek.

Likely useless.

What can you do?

If you live in a town / city / metropolitan area where there are printer repair centers, you can likely take the printer over and have a licensed technician either repair the printer or perhaps order the part for you.  You might just need the part number (from the Tech) so you can find / order the part from a trusted supplier on the Internet.

Where to take the printer?

Places (on the West Coast) that include printer repair centers are Staples (office supplies), Frys (big box electronic store), and similar.  Other Office supply stores that sell printers may also have a kiosk for repair.
