Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

I'd like to do a multi-page scan.   I looked around and discovered that [apparently] HP Scan can't do that but HP Smart can.  The problem is that HP Smart is too dumb  😀   What I want/need is 600 dpi black and white scan, and all smart can do is 300dpi gray-scale.   So a two-pronged question: is there a way to do multi-page scans with HP Scan.. OR is there a way to get better control of the scan parameters in HP Smart?  Thanks!!

@bernie220, that's unfortunate. I have rechecked the HP Scan Extended link attached in my first post and it is working fine. There could be a compatibility issue on your PC due to which you are not able to install it.

If the printer is out of warranty, you may have to pay for the phone technical support.

@bernie220, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Yes, you can scan multiple pages using the HP Printer Assistant software.

Note: You will have to scan the document as PDF. JPEG format does not support a multi=page scan.

This printer does not have a document feeder. You will have to manually load the next document to be scanned on the scanner glass.

  1. In HP Scan, click Scan.

The printer scans your document or photo, and then HP Scan displays a preview.

  2. To add pages or scan the other side, click the Add pages icon  on the bottom bar, place the next item face-down on the scanner glass, and then click Scan.

  3. For more info on how to san, refer to this document.

If the issue persists, use the HP Scan Extended app to scan and check if that helps.

Click here to download the app.

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Another quandary -- I can't download HPScanExtended.  Took me a while to figure out it is on an anonymous FTP server.  But I get errors:

ftp> quit

I haven't used plain FTP in over a decade [maybe two 😁] so I don't know what to make of the error

Thanks for trying to help,   I searched the support FAQs and nothing came up relative to my problem.  My printer is long out of warranty so I guess I'm just out of luck.

The link worked this morning! YAY.  But I still have a problem: the "add scan" icon is there, but it is grayed out.  I've looked through all of the config settings and can't find one that'd control that would enable it [liek the "create a separate scan for each page" with the regulat HP-SCANhpscan.PNG

It could be that the printer is not supporting the "Add scan" feature as it does not have a document feeder. In this case, you may use a third-party app to combine the individual scanned files or you may even do it online.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
