need to connect HP1312nfi MPF to Dell laptop via usb(WIN10 PRO). to be able to scan document to Dell. Start scan button, get waiting for computer.  Time out with No computer found.   Printer is      on ,Dell  .computer is active.  Is there some other software that needs to be installed on printer and/or computer or other buttons to push so printer & Dell laptop will talk to each other?  End result is to be able to  scan documents using auto feed and send, via USB, to file folder on Dell laptop.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you. 

 

Here are the steps to connect your HP 1312nfi MFP to your Dell laptop via USB and start scanning documents.

 

  • Make sure both your HP 1312nfi MFP and Dell laptop are turned on.
  • Connect one end of the USB cable to the USB port on your HP 1312nfi MFP and the other end to a USB port on your Dell laptop.
  • Wait for your Dell laptop to recognize the connected device and install the necessary drivers. This may take a few moments.
  • Once your Dell laptop has installed the necessary drivers, you can open your scanning software on your computer. If you don't have any scanning software installed, you can download and install the HP Scan software from the HP website.
  • In the scanning software, select the HP 1312nfi MFP as the scanning device.
  • Place the document you want to scan on the scanner bed of the HP 1312nfi MFP and adjust the settings in the scanning software as desired.
  • Click the scan button in the scanning software to begin scanning the document.
  • Once the scan is complete, you can save the scanned document to your Dell laptop's hard drive or another location of your choosing.

 

That's it! You should now be able to scan documents from your HP 1312nfi MFP directly to your Dell laptop via USB.
