I am going to reconfigure the fax set up to delete the answering set questions since I am using the Data Port on the AT&T base phone. I don’t know if there are some problems with the AT&T phone. The phone cuts off calls after thirty minutes. I will obtain a new phone from AT&T since the phone is only a couple of months old.

Welcome to the HP support community.

Could you elaborate on the issue for better understanding?

How are you trying to send a fax?

My phone carrier is Spectrum for my landlines. I live in area code 626. I am pretty sure the fax machine store the digit one as part of the set up. I tried sending fax to three different area code 626 number using the ten digit number each time I called the number would ring once and I would receive a no answer message for all for area code 626 numbers. I tested the phone numbers by dialing the numbers. The numbers I called I could hear the fax signal sound.

My daughter called and I was telling her about the problem with my fax machine. She asked me to try her fax in Area Code 213 the fax was sent and received.

I sent another fax to area code 818 the fax was sent and received.

So, I believe the fax problem only occurs in area code 626 my home area code.

I called Spectrum my landline carrier, Thr agent said it could be a problem with the receiving fax machines. I said three different numbers in area code 626?  He asked for one of the fax numbers, he attempted to look up the phone number, he couldn’t find the number in his system. He asked the error occurred today, I said no. He asked me to call them back on the same day of the occurrence.

I had purchased a new line that runs from the data port on my two line phone directly to the line one port on the fax machine. I ran the fax test. The fax machine connected to the HP fax test center. The fax machine passed all the tests. I feel it’s a problem with my home area code 626 connected problem.

Does your carrier require a one to be dialed for same area code numbers? If not and it is set that might be the issue. As you can sent to other area codes it is not likely a hardware issue with the printer but either a number programming issue or a problem with Spectrum.
