I reached the end of the help thread and there was no answer.  I discovered the answer by observation, since the question poster said it was a small glitch.  The answer is that there is a metal bar blocking the paper tray if you do not fill it with paper so that the bar slides under the plastic sidebars which apparently remind you to put in enough paper.

 

I signed up to this forum especially to say this, as it was incredible to me that the question poster had not posted the answer.  But by saying it was a small glitch, the poster helped me anyway.
