. My question was about hp 4520 before it was working with the old app. But now after the app is updated the scan to email button is greyed. So how to scan at all because as far as i know that's the only way to use it as a scanner. Any other way to scan?

Thanks for the update,

As you have mentioned in your post that the scan to email option is greyed out, In this scenario, I would suggest let's try to follow these steps here to enable scan to email.

HP Printers - Using the HP Smart App (Android, Apple iOS)

Step 4: Personalize the home screen (optional)

You can personalize the HP Smart app home screen tiles. Rearrange the tiles in the order you want for quick access.

   NOTE:

Some tiles, such as the Personalize tile, are fixed in position and cannot be rearranged.

  • To rearrange the tiles, on the home screen press and hold the tile you want to move, and then drag it to the desired location.

  • To turn tiles on or off, tap the Personalize tile, and then tap the On/Off toggle on the items you want to add (on) or remove (off) from the home screen. Tap Done to save any changes and return to the home screen.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

 

  • When was the last time the printer was working fine?
  • What app are you using?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

First of all it is hp envy 4523
It was working until automatic update of hp smart. Then the scan to email greyed. I tried on 2 mobile phones already so rule out the software/hardware problem. So when is your next update?

I don't specifically need scan to email function but general scanning. There is no other option on the hp smart remote printer app to scan

I'm the Jeet_Singh & I'm at your service. 

 

As I understand you are having issues while scanning from your HP Photosmart printer. Don't worry I'll do my best to help you with this.

 

Just wanted to check what device are you trying to print from? Is it Android or iOS

Have you tried to update the phone?

Have you tried to update the printer firmware? For more details, please use this link.

Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the App?

 

If you are using iOS device, please go to Settings>General>About and make sure you are running iOS 11.3.1. If not go to Settings>General>Software Update to update to the latest version of iOS.

 

If the app is already installed, uninstall and reinstall the app and check.

I use 2 phones and updated. Both the same
Printer upgrading link doesn't work. But i don't think it is printer problem because even you haven't added a printer, open the application scan to email is already greyed
