Hi @scott299,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet 4652 is having trouble with its communication settings. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue.

Check for Paper or Tray Issues:

  • Make sure the output tray extender is properly positioned. Sometimes, just adjusting or re-aligning it can resolve the error message.

Restart Devices:

  • Turn off your printer and computer. Wait for about 30 seconds, then turn them back on.

Check Printer Status:

  • Ensure that the printer is online and not displaying any error messages or warnings on its control panel.

Verify Network Connection:

  • Ensure that both your printer and computer are connected to the same network. Check your printer’s network settings to confirm its connection.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Make sure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. You can download the latest drivers from the HP Support website.

Reinstall Printer:

  • Remove the printer from your computer’s list of printers and reinstall it. On Windows, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners, select your printer, and click Remove device. Then, add the printer again using the Add a printer or scanner button.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Firmware updates can often resolve communication issues. Check for updates on the HP Support website.

Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • HP provides a utility called the HP Print and Scan Doctor that can diagnose and fix common printing and scanning problems. Download and run it from the HP Support website.

Reset the Printer:

  • As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset on the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
