I have no problem with the setup but after I send a FAX, the date changes to Jan. 1, 2000.
I have installed all of the updated software and frimware.
Ordinarily I power the printer off between usages but I have also noticed that while it is on the time falls behind over time.
I have attempted to use the IP address to sync it with the computer but can't find a setting like that in the program....

If the printer is on the network, and the feature is supported on your printer,
Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to configure your printer.
Caveats
Laserjet printers look very different from the Officejet Pro series: The available settings are likely different, and the settings that are available are sometimes located in different menus.
The following is contingent on the availability of the feature(s) and whether or not the printer can actually keep good time (hardware is healthy).
OK..
Hopefully all is good and you can extrapolate the settings and the menu locations from the example.

You are welcome.
Understood. At the time of my response, I was not in a location where I could check the User Manual for you. I was hoping your printer provided the service in "something-anything close" to the EWS method I described. It does appear that the date/time is set within the on the printer control panel in the Fax category. Interesting.
For those reading:
If you have not previously used the Embedded Web Server (EWS), learn more about the feature in the User Guide for your printer.
To open EWS
Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
Information for using EWS with this printer:
User Guide > Chapter 8 - Manage the product (Starting on page 82)
Information on tabs / sections is on page 83
Fax > Set Time / Date on the Printer Control Panel
User Guide > Page 71
Continuing ...
The method to set the date / time as described in the User Guide is also outlined in this "Solved" thread:
Solved! Setting the Correct Time To Use for Fax Headers
The printer is not terribly old (introduced in 2015) - the firmware is from early 2018. While possible, it is disappointing that the printer can no longer keep track of the date / time.
If I find anything substantive, I will edit this post.
