Hi @tracey0,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP printer is printing but not scanning and is not recognizing your computer, there are several possible reasons why this may be happening. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.
- Check the connections: Make sure that your printer is properly connected to your computer via USB cable or wireless network. Check for any loose connections or cables.
- Restart your devices: Try restarting your printer, computer, and router. This can sometimes help to reset any temporary issues that may be causing the problem.
- Update the printer driver: Make sure that you have the latest printer driver installed on your computer. You can download and install the driver from the HP website.
- Check for software conflicts: Sometimes, other software installed on your computer can interfere with the printer's scanning function. Try disabling any antivirus or firewall software temporarily to see if this resolves the issue.
- Reset the printer: You can also try resetting your printer to its default settings. This can be done by pressing and holding the power button on the printer for 15 seconds.
- Check the scanner settings: Make sure that the scanner settings on your printer are set to the correct mode (such as color or black and white) and resolution.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
