Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP Officejet Pro 8500
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I own this printer (HP Officejet Pro 8500) since 2007 (almost 12 years old), still very happy with it except that from time to time, it prevents me from scanning documents directly from the printer (instead, I have to go through HP solution center, less convenient / fast). I am getting following error "LCD List needs to be upgraded". I have tried rebooting my laptop, changing shortcuts in the scan list windows that pops up right after clicking ok, turning on / off the printer, without any effect so far.

In the past, I used to uninstall everything / reinstall everything and it would work for a while...

Any suggestions ?

thanks in advance for your help

I see that your experiencing error message" Upgrade LCD List Message Displays While Scanning" I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue.

To resolve the issue, restart the computer and printer, restore the shortcuts if necessary, and then confirm the Digital Imaging Monitor is working properly.

Step 1: Restart the computer and printer

Restart your computer and reset the printer to resolve any connectivity issues or error states.

  1. Restart the computer.

  2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from rear of the printer, wait 30 seconds, and then reconnect the cord. Turn the printer back on if it does not turn on automatically.

  3. Search Windows for 'HP Solution Center' to find and open the HP software.

  4. Make sure a green check mark displays under the printer you are scanning with.

Connected printer in HP Solution Center

  5. Try to scan from the printer control panel.

If the issue persists, continue to the next step.

Step 2: Set up the scan shortcut list

Use HP Solution Center to create the list of scan shortcuts that display on the printer.

  1. In HP Solution Center, click Settings, click Scan Settings, and then click Scan to... Setup to open the Scan To....Setup window.

     Scan To...Setup window

  2. Click a scan shortcut in the left pane, and then click Add to move it to the right pane. Repeat for other shortcuts you want to display on the printer.

  3. Click Update the Device, and then return to the printer to confirm the shortcuts are listed.

NOTE: If the shortcuts do not display, restarting the computer and the printer might resolve the issue.
  4. Try to scan from the printer control panel.

If the issue persists, continue to the next step.

Step 3: Make sure the Digital Imaging Monitor (DIM) is running

The Digital Imaging Monitor must be running to start scans from the printer. Change startup settings or reinstall the software if the DIM is not running.

  1. Find the DIM icon  in the notification area in the lower-right corner of the computer. You might need to click an arrow to expand the notification area.

    • If the DIM icon displays, the DIM is installed and running correctly. You do not need to continue with these steps.

    • If the DIM icon does not display, continue to the next step.

  2. Search Windows for c:\Program Files (x86)\HP\digital imaging\bin, and then press Enter to open the bin folder.

  3. Find and double-click hpqste08.exe.

  4. Try to scan from the printer control panel.

    • If the error still displays, reinstall the printer software. Go to Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows) for steps to remove the software and drivers, and then go to 123.hp.com (in English) to install the latest software and driver package.

    • If you can scan, leave the bin folder open, and then continue with these steps to make sure hpqste08.exe starts when Windows starts.

  5. From the bin folder, right-click the hpqste08.exe file, and then select Create shortcut.

  6. Search Windows for shell:common startup, and then press Enter to open the startup window.

  7. Position the Startup folder window and the bin folder window side by side.

  8. Click and drag the hpqste08.exe shortcut from the bin folder and drop it into the Startup folder window.

  9. Close both windows, restart the computer, and then try to scan.
