Hello,

First of all, I don't get why wi-fi printing works but wi-fi scanning setup leads to a Network Error.

I would like to be able to scan to a shared folder on my Mac. I've made the folder shareable and selected "Write only (drop box)" from the sharing options so that the scanner can add files to the folder.

In the Network Path I have tried \\ComputerName.local\Scanned, where NAME is replaced by my actual computer name, and Scanned is the shared folder mentioned above. I've also trying replacing NAME.local with the IP address noted in the Sharing panel of the System Preferences (192.168.XXX.XXX\Scanned), but this always told me my username and password were wrong.

In User Name and Password, I have tried the following:

  • User Name
  • User_Name
  • User%20Name
  • ComputerName\ (plus all of the three above)

I've made sure the time on the printer is synced with the computer. There was a sync button, so that was easy.

I've tried setting the IP on the printer to Manual, outside of the 100-150 range, and using Google's dns servers.

I even called HP support. We were on the phone for an hour and he remote controlled my computer to fix the problem, and he couldn't fix the problem.

Below are all of the forum posts and help posts that I've tried and that haven't helped – please see them before offering the same advice. Thanks.

One issue that i have seen cause problems is less than perfect compatibility of printers with 5ghz wireless built in and current 5Ghz routers. Best option is to program the 2.4Ghz channel of your router to a different SSID than the 5Ghz and then force the printer to connect to the 2.4 Ghz channel
