HP Inkjet Pro 8600
Microsoft Windows XP

Continue to get "Protocol error.  The server is not supported."  on the printer screen when trying to scan to email.

Have tried unplugging.  Have run through set up again.

Can anyone help?

Ehat email service do you use?

It may be due to an unsupported protocol indeed.

I know that some quite major email service providers such as AOL, Yahoo, Verizon  as example changed their mail configuration to  use security protocols which are not supported by the printer..

If you use any of the providers above, I would recommend using a Gmail or Outlook.com account instead.

You are completely correct.

I entered a gmail email and the scan to email is now working.

Thank you so very much!

I have a gmail account and have previously been able to scan to email with no issues. But now I get the protocol error with zero idea on how to give me email permission to use the function
