I'm trying to set up the "scan to computer" feature on an HP 9135e. I have MacOS 14 installed on my computer. All the information is trying to lead me to the HP Smart app, but I want to be able to scan to my computer directly from the printer.
I tried updating the printer driver via the HP Easy Start, but kept getting a pop-up that it "cannot obtain software information."

Hi @ChristineSH,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To set up the "Scan to Computer" feature on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e directly from the printer using macOS 14, follow these steps.
Ensure Printer and Computer Connectivity
- Ensure that your HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e and your Mac are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. This is crucial for the "Scan to Computer" feature to work properly.
Install the HP Printer Drivers
Use HP Easy Start:
- Download and open the HP Easy Start app.
- If you encounter the "cannot obtain software information" error:
- Restart your Mac and Printer: Power off both devices, wait a minute, and then power them back on.
- Retry HP Easy Start: If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.
Download Drivers Manually:
- Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page.
- Enter your printer model (HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e) and select macOS 14 as your operating system.
- Download and install the appropriate drivers manually.
Enable "Scan to Computer"
Open HP Utility:
- If you were able to successfully install the drivers, open the "HP Utility" application from your Applications folder.
- Go to the “Scan Settings” section and select “Scan to Computer”.
- Ensure that the “Enable Scan to Computer” option is checked.
Test the Scan to Computer Feature:
- On your printer’s control panel, navigate to the scan options and select "Scan to Computer."
- Choose your Mac from the list of available computers and initiate a scan.

Troubleshoot Potential Issues
- If HP Utility is not installed or not working:
- You can try resetting the printing system on your Mac:
- Go to "System Settings" > "Printers & Scanners."
- Right-click on the printer list (or hold the Control key while clicking) and select "Reset printing system."
- Re-add your printer using the “+” button and select it from the available devices.
- Retry the setup process.
- You can try resetting the printing system on your Mac:
Alternative Option - HP Smart App
If the manual setup does not work, you might want to reconsider using the HP Smart app as a backup option, as it provides full functionality for scanning and managing your printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
