Hello,
why can't I select the current macOS 15.0 Sequoia in the menu selection at the top of my request? Really strange. Apparently HP no longer supports the latest macOS 15.0??
My problem:
I just want to stand in front of the printer and press “Scan to computer” on the printer display so that the scanned document is sent directly to the mac computer. Nothing more.
This worked fine with macOS 12.0. Not anymore with macOS 15. macOS 15.0 was released last year and HP has not made any adjustments to the printer software.
I don't want to choose another printer manufacturer because I haven't had any problems with the printer so far.
As you can read in the community, I don't seem to be the only one having problems with the macOS 15.x
Perhaps HP will be able to provide a viable solution. Maybe there is a tip! Does anyone have a solution? Thank you

Same problem here.
In the HP Utility, under the "Scan to Computer" section, a "Communication Error" message appears.
Before Sequoia, everything was fine.
Tried updating the drivers, removing the printer, and resetting the printing system.

Hi @Guennio2015.
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding scanning to a computer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Update Software:
- Ensure your HP printer drivers and software are up-to-date for compatibility with your current Mac operating system.
- Check for software updates under System Preferences > Software Update on your Mac.
Check Printer and Network Connection:
- Ensure your printer is connected to the same network as your Mac.
- Verify that your printer is turned on and ready for use.
Use HP Easy Scan:
- Download and install the HP Easy Scan App from the Mac App Store if you haven't already. It provides scanning functionality for HP printers on macOS.
Verify and Configure Scan-to-Computer Settings:
- Open the HP Printer Assistant software from the HP Easy Scan app.
- Navigate to the scan settings and ensure that the "Scan to Computer" function is enabled.
Try Scanning Manually:
- Open the HP Easy Scan application, and try scanning from there manually to verify that the function works outside of the printer interface.
Advanced Troubleshooting:
- If problems persist, reboot both your printer and your computer.
- Ensure your Mac and printer firmware are updated to the latest version.
I hope this helps.

Hi
- The software on the Mac is up to date
- The printer and network connection are working fine
- The HP Easy Scan app can be downloaded from the Mac App Store. However, the app CRASHES!! when launching.
- The printer and computer have been restarted several times, without success.
The HP Easy Scan app was last updated by HP a year ago, before the release of macOS 15.0 in September 2024. The Mac App Store description lists the app's new feature as "This update includes support for macOS 13.0 & 14.0"!
I'm using macOS Sequoia 15.5!
Read the app reviews in the App Store. The negative reviews say it all. Why doesn't HP take action and update the required software? I'm not the only user experiencing these issues. Thank You

Hi @Guennio2015,
Thank you for following up, and I really appreciate the clear details you’ve shared about your setup and what you’ve tried so far.
Use macOS Built-In Preview or Image Capture
Good news: You don’t need HP Easy Scan to scan, your Mac’s built-in apps can do it!
Try this instead:
Place your document on the scanner.
Open Preview → Click File > Import from Scanner (your printer should appear).
Or open Image Capture (Applications > Image Capture).
Select your printer from the list.
Click Show Details if needed → Adjust settings → Click Scan.
This should work even if “Scan to Computer” on the printer display won’t.
(It just means you start the scan from your Mac instead of the printer’s panel.)
Enable “Scan to Computer” from Embedded Web Server (EWS)
Some HP models allow you to re-enable “Scan to Computer” through the printer’s web page.
To check:
Find your printer’s IP (print a Network Config Page or check the printer display).
Type that IP into your web browser.
Sign in → Look under Scan → Scan to Computer.
Make sure it’s enabled.
Alternative: Use HP Smart (if you haven’t)
Some newer HP printers now rely more on HP Smart for scanning.
If you haven’t tried yet:
Download HP Smart from the Mac App Store.
Add your printer.
Look for the Scan tile and try scanning from there.
I hope this helps.

Sorry, but I think we are misunderstanding each other. My scenario, which has always worked so far, has been the following: The Macbook is switched on. No program is open. I go to the scanner and insert a document. Then I press “Scan to Computer” on the printer display. The scan starts, sends the scan to the computer and that's it. This is just one step that has always worked quickly and reliably without having to have any scanning programs open on the Macbook. It has always worked so far. Just not with macOS 15.x!
I just want “Scan to Computer” to work on the printer display, nothing else. This is very helpful when I want to scan a lot of documents.
What you describe is too cumbersome. I have to go to the computer and initiate scanning for each document.
HP urgently needs to make adjustments so that “Scan to Computer” works again with macOS 15.x.

Hi @Guennio2015,
Thank you for clarifying, and I completely understand your frustration. You’re right: “Scan to Computer” from the printer’s control panel should just work without needing to open a scanning app each time. Many users rely on this simple, hands-free workflow, and I hear you that having to start each scan manually from the Mac is not practical when scanning large batches.
Right now, macOS Sequoia (15.x) is very new, and HP’s older scanning drivers (and HP Easy Scan) haven’t yet been updated to fully support the changes Apple made to scanner device permissions and background services in macOS 15. That’s why the app crashes and the “Scan to Computer” handshake breaks, even if it worked perfectly before on macOS 12–14.
What you can try right now (workaround):
For some HP models, you might be able to restore the “Scan to Computer” service like this:
Make sure HP Smart is installed and your printer is added.
Use HP Smart to run a single scan, sometimes this reinitializes the “Scan to Computer” listener in the background.
Then go to Embedded Web Server (EWS) → enter your printer’s IP address in a browser → check under Scan or Webscan settings to ensure “Scan to Computer” is enabled.
Restart your Mac. Some users have found this handshake sometimes restores the direct scan button to work once per login session.
But unfortunately, if the core drivers don’t yet fully support macOS 15’s new background device permissions, this may still not work 100% reliably.
I hope this helps.

Hi Kuroi_Kenshi,
I've now implemented this workaround as described. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I think we'll stop looking for another solution here. I'll just have to wait until HP updates the software and implements the "Scan to Computer" feature so that the scanner works seamlessly with macOS 15.x. Thanks for your efforts.
A somewhat frustrated user,
best regards and have a nice day anyway.
