i have tried that as a fix it is true it gets rid of the message but you also cannot scan anymore from the scanner to the PC so the fixed isnt suitable. Is there another fix as i cannot believe how annoying this stupid pop up message is?

Hi @Biobobski,

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

I understand you have a popup message - "scan to computer is no longer activated" and you want to turn it off,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Did you try disabling the popup?

Have you looked at any related HP Forums post that may have helped others? Click here to view a workaround that has helped.

While you check that out and if it doesn't work, try the below steps:

  • You can disable this by deactivating the scan to computer feature.
  • On your desktop double-click the printer icon.
  • In the new screen click on "manage scan to computer"
  • In the new screen uncheck the Automatically start Scan to Computer
  • and click the disable button.

When you want to scan, launch the HP Scan application and complete the scan.

But if you want to do Scan to computer from the control panel of the printer, then you need to activate this back and 'Manage to scan'

Keep me posted, how it goes!

If the information I've provided was helpful.

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

That doesn’t fix the problem as all that does is disable the whole “scan to computer” service which defeats the object of having the feature in the first place.

The message is there on all PCs connected to this model printer, there are 3 across remote offices (different networks and locations) all display this annoying message with the only fix to disable one of the main features.

The printers need to be able to scan back to the pc as some are a long way from the main pc and would be too annoying to load the scanner then walk back to scan, and then collect the paperwork.

This driver needs rewriting to just get rid of the message as it serves no use if it doesn’t monitor the network to actually check if the service is available.

Hi @Biobobski,

Thanks for the reply.

 Try the steps listed below:

  • Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click on http://hp.care/2raxpuZ to download and install the printer drivers.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
  • reinstall the drivers
  • Restart the printer and the PC and check.

Do get back to me as I have a few more tricks up my sleeve. Said that, if I have helped you resolve the issue.

Feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon followed by clicking on 'Accepted as Solution'

Have a great day Ahead!

It’s on a network that is why it has the scan to computer feature so usb drivers are no good

@Biobobski

Hi,

as @Raj1788 is out of the office, I'm replying to you.

Please let me know the exact printer model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l. Also, mentioned the version of Windows you're using.

Meanwhile, the steps suggested in this HP document are specifically to resolve scan related issues over the network.

Keep me posted. Cheers! 🙂

That was helpful thanks.   It would be better if HP didn't have this problem as a default issue.   You know, if a person has a new fresh install, they should not have to deal with this.

I am trying to disable the scan to computer is no longer activated message which keeps popping up.  One of the suggested fixes was to go to the printer icon on my desktop and go into scan settings.  I don't have a printer icon on my desktop and don't know how to find the settings. Please advise.

I'm sorry, I don't have a solution.   I did a brand new fresh install on a high end computer and have the same problem.   HP will not be my choice next time.

Thanks for your response.  I finally managed to get through to a real person on the phone who did help me resolve the pop up message (I was able to find the printer icon on my desktop and then I deactivated the scanner).  I believe that each time I want to do a scan I have to go back into the icon and reactivate it.  Not ideal!
