Hi @Christy681
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand how important it is to be able to take a scanned document and work with it in Word, especially when you need to edit or reuse the content. Thank you for checking into this already.
Let’s go through the steps together to make sure your scanned file can be saved and opened in Word.
Step 1: Scan Using the HP App
- Open the HP App on your Windows PC.
- Select Scan and choose your printer.
- Scan the document and save it as a PDF or JPEG file.
Guide: Install and Use the HP App
Step 2: Use Word’s Built‑in PDF Conversion
- If you saved the scan as a PDF, open Microsoft Word.
- Go to File > Open and select the scanned PDF.
- Word will automatically convert the PDF into an editable Word document.
- Review the formatting and make adjustments as needed.
Step 3: Use OCR (Optical Character Recognition)
If your scanned file is an image (JPEG/PNG):
- Open the HP App and select Scan to PDF with OCR if available.
- This creates a PDF with text recognition.
- Open the OCR PDF in Word, and it will convert into editable text.
Guide: HP Scan Software – Save Scans as Editable Text (OCR)
Step 4: Save as Word Document
- Once the file is open in Word, go to File > Save As.
- Choose Word Document (.docx) as the format.
- Save it to your desired location.
Step 5: Test with a Simple Document
- Try scanning a one‑page text document.
- Save it as PDF, open in Word, and confirm the conversion works smoothly.
By following these steps, you can scan with the HP App, save the file as PDF or image, and then use Word’s conversion features to turn it into an editable document. This way, your scanned content becomes easy to edit and reuse.
