How do I scan legal size docs on a HP 6978, I can't seem to find any settings for Legal size documents in the scan functions.

Not sure where you are looking.

 

You may need to use the Scan software on the computer - scan function on the printer control panel is limited.

 

Maximum scan size from ADF:   1-sided: 216 x 356 mm (8.5 x 14.0 inches)
