Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I have win10 and have an hp deskjet 3520 which I keep just for scanning because it has a paper feed problem: it says no paper when there is paper. It always worked well with scanning using the software HP Deskjet 3520 Printer Assistant which offers a 'scan' option. That scan option used to let me scan many pages one after the other on the 'document to file' option to make one many page pdf. As recently as last week. suddenly this week all I can ever get it to do is one page at a time. It won't do another page without save. Or 'done'. and with either save or done it promptly scans whatever is in there AGAIN. It has already scanned it. I pressed 'scan' and it scanned it and shows it up on the left pane. I used to be able to click something and it would do another. then another, then another. And then I could click 'save' and save and name the file. And then click 'done' and it's all over, the scanning. I think is how it went. But now it scans it and then I've no options but 'save' or 'done' and they both lead to another scan and a save of the doc and must start again. Anyone know what might be wrong? I can fix it somehow? Or I need a reinstall? If reinstall where/how?

Hi @deskjet 3520,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing a scan issue with your HP Printer HP deskjet 3520 Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist better:

  • Does the copy also have the same issue?
  • Are you able to get good-quality scans using the automatic document feeder?
  • What application are you using to scan?
  • Have you tried using an alternate scanning application?

While you respond to that, Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove the USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till the warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Update the printer firmware

  • Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your product
  • Click here to know different methods of updating the printer firmware.

If the issue persists, then please follow the steps mentioned in this document: Resolve scan quality problems on HP printers

follow the steps mentioned in this document:  HP Printers - Scanner not found or connected (Windows, Mac)

Scan with an HP printer (HP Smart app)
