When I scan to network folder on my Mac desktop, the PDF file does scan to the folder. But I have to drag the file out of the folder in order to scan the next file. Otherwise, if I scan another file, it replaces the first file. Have not had this issue for a few years until recently when it began to do this. I used to be able to scan multiple different documents and all would show up in the network folder. I downloaded latest firmware and driver for this MFC. Using Mac 15.3.2 (Sequoia)

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdw where scanned files are overwriting each other due to the same filename being used for each scan. This is a common problem that can often be resolved by enabling auto-incrementing filenames. Here’s how to fix it:

Root Cause

Your printer is saving scanned files to the network folder using the same filename each time, which causes new scans to overwrite the previous ones. This behavior can change due to:

  • A reset or change in the filename format (often after a firmware update).
  • Reconfiguration or loss of the printer's scan-to-folder job settings.

🔧 Fix: Enable Auto-Incrementing Filenames

You can check the scan-to-network-folder settings either via the Embedded Web Server (EWS) or HP Utility on Mac.

Option 1: Using Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  1. Get Printer IP Address:
    • On the printer panel, tap the Wi-Fi icon or go to Network SettingsView IP Address.
  2. Open Web Interface:
    • Open Safari or Chrome on your Mac, and type the printer’s IP into the address bar (e.g., http://192.168.1.105).
  3. Log in (if needed):
    • The default username/password is usually admin / admin, or it may be blank. You may have set a custom one.
  4. Navigate to:
    • Scan → Scan to Network Folder → Folder List.
  5. Edit the Scan Folder Entry:
    • Click Edit next to the scan folder entry you're using.
    • Under File Name Prefix, ensure something like Scan or Document is set.
    • Enable Filename Suffix (this adds _001, _002, etc.).
    • You can choose options like Date & Time, Incrementing Number, or Username as suffix options.
  6. Save the Changes.

Option 2: Using HP Utility on Mac

  1. Open HP Utility:
    • You can find it via Spotlight.
  2. Select Your Printer:
    • Go to Scan to Network Folder settings.
  3. Edit the Relevant Folder Profile:
    • Check for filename or naming convention settings, and enable auto-increment or unique filenames.
  4. Apply the Changes.

🔁 Test It

Try scanning two files one after the other. If the suffix is now auto-incrementing (e.g., Scan_001.pdf, Scan_002.pdf), the issue is fixed.
