I just purchased an iMac 24" All-in-One. (All prior experience was Windows PCs). Before downloading and installing the software for my Mac, at 123.HP.com I was able to print, but after installing the software I get an error message that my printer may be low in ink and refuses to print. Since the printer showed all 3 color cartridges low (not empty), I replaced all 3. Now the printer shows that all cartridges are full. However, when I try to print I get the same error message.
Another issue (related?):
I can scan a document but I cannot find a way to scan to editable text!

Hi @DavidInCotuit,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand your HP printer is now showing full ink levels but still won’t print, and you’re also unable to scan to editable text on your new iMac. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and how to scan with text editing.
1. Reset the HP printing system on your Mac
Go to the Apple menu > System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Control + click) anywhere in the printers list and select Reset printing system.
Add your printer again by clicking “+”, selecting your HP printer, and choosing HP Smart or AirPrint as the driver.
This refreshes printer communication and clears stuck errors.
2. Check the print queue for stalled jobs
In Printers & Scanners, select your printer and open the print queue.
Cancel or delete any stuck print jobs, then try printing a new test page.
3. Update or reinstall HP Smart
Open HP Smart on your iMac and check for any pending firmware or software updates.
If issues continue, uninstall HP Smart and reinstall it from the Mac App Store to ensure you have the latest version optimized for macOS.
4. Power cycle the printer
Turn off the printer, unplug it from the wall outlet for 60 seconds, and then plug it back in.
Power it on again and try printing a test document from HP Smart.
5. Ensure “Use System Dialog” when printing
When you print from any app, click Print > Use System Dialog and ensure the correct printer is selected.
Check that “Pause Printing” is not enabled.
6. Scan with text editing (OCR)
Open HP Smart and select Scan > Get Started.
After scanning, click Edit > Convert to Text (OCR) or select Save as PDF (Searchable) if available.
If OCR options don’t appear, download and install HP Easy Scan from the Mac App Store — it includes built-in OCR (Optical Character Recognition) tools.
You can also open scanned PDFs in Preview or TextEdit to verify if text is selectable.
I hope this helps.
