@Vicnjes, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're having trouble saving scanned images as JPEGs on your HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer, and everything is defaulting to PDF despite your efforts. Let's walk through some steps to resolve this.
Use HP Scan Software
Make sure you're using the HP Scan utility that comes with the HP Full Feature Software and Drivers.
Download or reinstall the full software package from HP official site: Official HP® Support
During installation, choose HP Scan when prompted.
Change Scan File Type to JPEG
- Open HP Scan from your computer (search for it in the Start menu).
- Select Photo to File or Scan a Document or Photo.
- In the scan settings window, look for File Type.
- Change it from PDF to JPEG.
- Click Scan, and it should now save as a JPEG.
Check Default Settings
If it keeps reverting to PDF:
- In HP Scan, click Advanced Settings or More.
- Under Save Options, set JPEG as the default file type.
- Save the settings.
Try HP Smart App (Alternative)
If HP Scan doesn’t work as expected, try the HP Smart app:
- Download: HP Smart
- Open the app > Click Scan > Choose Photo > Set file type to JPEG before saving.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
