a few weeks ago my HP laser jet M140 was not working... someone from HP took control of my computer and worked with me. He ended up adding the HP Laser Jet MFP M139-M142 PCLm-S which fixed the printing problem.. but now my scanner is not found

Hi @Joannep511
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It seems like the driver installed to fix your printing issue may not fully support your scanner, which is why the scanner is not being recognized.
Let’s get that resolved so you can use both functions seamlessly:
1. Install the Correct Full-Feature Driver
Visit the HP Support page Official HP® Drivers and Software Download | HP® Support and search for drivers specific to the HP LaserJet M140 model.
Download and install the full-feature driver/software package for your printer. This package typically includes drivers for both printing and scanning functions.
2. Remove the Incompatible Driver
Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
Right-click on the HP LaserJet MFP M139-M142 PCLm-S driver and select Remove Device.
After removing the incorrect driver, restart your computer to clear any remnants.
3. Update Windows Drivers
Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
Expand Imaging devices or Printers and look for your printer.
Right-click your printer, select Update Driver, and choose "Search automatically for drivers." This might help Windows find and install the correct scanner driver.
4. Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor
Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from HP’s website.
Run the tool, and it will automatically detect and resolve scanner-related issues.
5. Add the Scanner Manually
Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
Click Add a Printer/Scanner, then select your HP LaserJet M140 from the list or add it manually using its IP address.
6. Test the Scanner Function
Open the Windows Fax and Scan app (search for it in the Start menu) or use the HP Smart app to check if the scanner is now recognized.
Run a test scan to ensure functionality.
