Hi @john0658,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for explaining the issue so clearly. I understand how frustrating it is when your HP Envy 6500e All-in-One Printer scans stop working, even though printing works fine and the printer is connected. Let’s walk through the steps to fix this.
Step 1: Re-enable “Scan to Computer”
Sometimes the scan-to-PC feature gets disabled after updates or sleep mode.
- Open the HP Smart app on your Windows PC.
- Select your printer → go to Scan.
- If it says “Scan to computer is not activated,” click Activate.
- Try scanning again from the printer or app.

Step 2: Use HP Smart’s Diagnose & Fix Tool
This tool can automatically detect and fix scanning issues.
- Open the HP Smart app.
- Click the wrench icon (bottom left corner).
- Select Diagnose & Fix.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 3: Reconnect Email Account (If Using Scan to Email)
If your personal email disappeared from the printer display:
- Open the HP Smart app or Embedded Web Server (EWS).
- Go to Scan to Email Setup.
- Re-enter your email credentials and SMTP settings.
- Save and test the connection.
Step 4: Restart Printer and PC
- Power off both devices.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Power them back on and retry scanning.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
