New problem -- cannot get computer to scan from  document feeder.  It SAYS 'document loaded' but it continues to scan a blank page from the (empty) scanner glass.

Please clarify your scanner model, as well as the exact steps taken to scan from the printer front panel.

From your description, I would assume the scan settings are set to use the Flatbed Glass.

I am having the same problem -- with a very new HP Laser Jet Pro MFP 4101fdw. Scanning from the feeder works about half the time. However, often when I load a document, the screen says "Document Loaded" but it doesn't go through. When that happens, the scanner scans from the glass, and I end up with a blank piece of paper. So I have to delete that scan and start over.
