Answer

 

With the exception of built-in security to prevent certain types of illegal scans, the printer is not aware of what it prints, scans, or copies.

 

Scan to Word requires software that understands how to translate content scanned into Word formatted structures.

 

The printer has no such software built into it.

 

This means you must have / obtain / purchase software that can scan to Word format.

 

What else?

 

HP offers a solution for your printer model.

 

This printer is eligible for the optional HP+ Service contract.

 

For this printer:

Scan to Word / .docx formatted files is available if / after you accept the HP+ service contract for your printer and create / use the appropriate HP Smart Shortcut to save the scanned content to a supported Cloud Storage destination.

 

The HP+ contract itself is free and includes both benefits AND responsibilities for both HP and you (the customer).

 

Be Aware

 

Do NOT sign up for HP+ without first understanding how it works - once enabled, the contract cannot be rescinded (cancelled).

Requirements for HP+ printers

 

This topic describes the requirements for HP+ printers.


Keep the printer connected to the Internet


HP+ printers are cloud-connected devices that must remain connected to the Internet in order to function. The
Internet connection enables the printer to deliver HP+ specific app features and firmware updates.


During setup, you must connect the printer to the Internet using a supported network connection. After setup, you can print using a USB cable connection, if desired, but the printer must still be connected to the Internet.


Use Original HP cartridges


Original HP cartridges are cartridges manufactured and sold by HP in official HP packaging. If non-Original HP
supplies or refilled cartridges are installed, HP+ printers will not operate as expected.

Important

HP Instant Ink Print-by-Page subscription can be added to HP+ (but is not required).
