Hi @BobBNC,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check USB Connection:

  • Ensure the USB drive is properly connected to the printer. Try using a different USB port on the printer.

USB Drive Issues:

  • Make sure the USB drive is formatted correctly (preferably in FAT32) and has sufficient space. Some drives might have compatibility issues, so consider using a different drive to test.

Restart Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and then turn it back on. This can often resolve minor software glitches.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Access the printer settings via the control panel or the embedded web server (EWS) to verify the scan settings. Ensure that scanning to USB is enabled.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest version.

Reinstall Printer Software:

  • Reinstall the HP Smart App or HP software on your Windows 10 system to ensure all functionalities work properly.

Try a Different File Format:

  • Some issues can occur with selecting a file format that isn't supported by the printer's current configuration. Try changing the file format to PDF or JPEG in the scan settings.

Factory Reset:

  • As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset. Be aware this will reset all printer settings to default.

I hope this helps.
