The icons, for documents, scans, photos, etc. do not compress (I think that is the term to use) when pressed. Everything else works well.

Hi @MaryF4
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing an issue where the icons for document, scan, photo, etc., are not responding or compressing (i.e., not activating) when you press them. This could be a problem with the printer's interface or software settings. Here are a few troubleshooting steps to help resolve this:
1. Restart the Printer
- A simple restart can often fix issues with the interface or buttons not working properly.
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the power source for about 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
- Try pressing the icons again to see if they are now responding.
2. Check Printer’s Touchscreen Sensitivity
- If your printer has a touchscreen, sometimes the screen's sensitivity can cause issues with the icons not responding.
- Calibrate the touchscreen (if your printer has that option) or clean the screen to ensure it’s registering your touch properly. You can use a soft cloth to clean the screen, ensuring it’s free of any debris or fingerprints.
3. Check for Software or Firmware Updates
- Outdated software or firmware can cause issues with printer functionality.
- If you're using the HP Smart app, make sure it’s up to date.
- Go to the HP website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model. Follow the steps provided to install any updates.
4. Check the Printer’s Control Panel Settings
- If the icons still don’t respond, the printer settings might need to be adjusted.
- Navigate through the printer’s menu to ensure no settings have been accidentally changed that might be interfering with the button functions. For example:
- Check for settings that might affect network settings or scan settings.
5. Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults
- If none of the above works, you might consider performing a factory reset on the printer to restore all settings to default:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
- Confirm the reset and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Keep in mind that this will remove any custom settings you’ve set up, so you’ll need to reconfigure your printer afterward.
6. Reinstall Printer Drivers (If Using Computer for Printing/Scanning)
- If the issue persists when using the printer from a computer, you may want to uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers on your computer.
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your printer and select Remove Device.
- Reinstall the printer drivers from the HP Support website or the HP Smart app.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
