Hi @CAZ151824

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

To help you scan your document properly, here are recommended scanner settings depending on what you’re scanning (text, photo, or form), and your goal (editing, emailing, or archiving):

Recommended Scanner Settings for General Documents:

For Standard Text Documents (e.g. contracts, letters):

Scan Type: Grayscale (or Black & White if color is not needed)

Resolution (DPI): 300 DPI

File Format: PDF (for multi-page documents) or JPEG (for single-page quick view)

Size: A4 or Letter (depending on your region)

Compression: Medium (balances file size and quality)

For Forms or Documents with Color Highlights:

Scan Type: Color

Resolution: 300 DPI

File Format: PDF

Color Mode: 24-bit Color

For Photos or High-Detail Images:

Scan Type: Color

Resolution: 600 DPI or higher

File Format: TIFF (for high quality) or JPEG (for sharing)

Color Mode: 24-bit Color

Other Important Settings:

Setting

Recommendation

OCR (Optical Character Recognition)

Enable if you want to edit text after scanning

Auto Crop / Deskew

Enable to straighten and trim edges

Brightness/Contrast

Default is usually fine; adjust if scan looks too dark or faint

Where to Find These Settings:

HP Smart App → Open app → Select your printer → Click "Scan" → Click "Settings" before scanning.

Windows Scan App or macOS Preview → Choose scanner → Click “Show Details” or “Options” to access settings.

If you let me know:

Your exact HP printer/scanner model, and

What kind of document you’re scanning (text, photo, form, etc.)

…I can give you model-specific settings and software guidance.
