I'm really sorry your DeskJet 2855E keeps asking for a reset when you try to scan—it’s frustrating when the printer responds but won’t complete the task. Since you've already restarted it, let’s walk through a few deeper steps to help clear the error and get scanning back on track.

 

Try these steps to resolve the “Reset Printer” scan error:

1. Power cycle with full disconnect

This clears residual memory and resets internal sensors.

  • Turn off the printer
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall
  • Wait 60 seconds
  • Plug it back in directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors)
  • Turn it on and wait until it’s fully idle

 

2. Check for paper or debris in the scanner bed

Even a small obstruction can trigger a scan error.

  • Open the scanner lid
  • Inspect the glass and edges for dust, paper fragments, or tape
  • Clean the glass with a soft, lint-free cloth
  • Close the lid securely and try scanning again

 

3. Use the HP App to scan

This bypasses older software and uses the latest scanning interface.

  • Download or open the HP App
  • Select your printer
  • Go to Scan > Scan a Document or Photo
  • Choose your settings and start the scan

If the app shows a specific error code, note it and let me know.

 

4. Run Diagnose & Fix tool

This detects and resolves software or connection issues.

  • Open the HP App
  • Go to Support > Diagnose & Fix
  • Follow the prompts while the printer is powered on and connected

 

5. Reinstall the printer software

Corrupted drivers can cause persistent scan errors.

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners
  • Remove the DeskJet 2855E
  • Restart your PC
  • Reinstall using the full software package from the HP DeskJet 2855E Driver Page
