Hi @ji54

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP Smart Tank 5101 is connected to Wi-Fi, has sufficient ink, is plugged in, and shows no error messages, yet isn't printing, follow these steps to resolve the issue:

Restart Printer and Computer:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Turn the printer back on and check if the issue persists.

Check Wi-Fi Connection:

  • Ensure the printer is properly connected to the Wi-Fi network.
  • Verify that your laptop is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the printer.
  • If necessary, reconnect the printer to the Wi-Fi network through the printer’s control panel.

Clear Printer Queue:

  • Open the print queue on your laptop:
    • Windows: Go to Devices and Printers, right-click the HP Smart Tank 5101 printer, and select See what's printing.
    • Mac: Go to System Preferences, select Printers & Scanners, select the printer, then click Open Print Queue.
  • Cancel any existing print jobs by right-clicking each job and selecting Cancel.

Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Uninstall the current printer drivers from your computer.
  • Download and install the latest drivers and software for your HP Smart Tank 5101 from the HP Support website.

Set Printer as Default:

  • Ensure your HP Smart Tank 5101 is set as the default printer:
    • Windows: Go to Devices and Printers, right-click the HP Smart Tank 5101 printer, and select Set as default printer.
    • Mac: Go to System Preferences, select Printers & Scanners, choose the HP Smart Tank 5101, and click Default Printer.

Check for Software Updates:

  • Make sure that your operating system (Windows or macOS) and printer software are fully updated.

Use HP’s Diagnose & Fix Tool

  • In the HP Smart app, click Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Let it run a scan—it will automatically fix common connection issues.
You can also access this tool on HP’s support page if needed.

Restart Spooler Service:

  • For Windows users, restart the print spooler service:
    • Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
    • Type services.msc and press Enter.
    • Scroll down to Print Spooler, right-click, and select Restart.

Verify Printer Functionality:

  • Print a test page directly from the printer's control panel to ensure the printer itself is functioning correctly.

If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
