Photosmart C5180 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Photosmart C5180 All-in-One connected via USB to Windws 10 64 bit.

Scanning doesnot workl, although it did work in Windows 7.

Application Event log shows:  C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqkygrp.exe as a faulting application.

I have tried every combination of Compatibility, from Windows 8 down to Winfdows XP compatibility, but nothing works.

I have reinstalled the entire  application suite, but scanning does not work.

I have tried this on two different Windows 10 laptops, both present the same issue.

Printing works fine.

Has anyone managed to get the C5180 scanning funtion working under Windows 10?

Thanks

Martin

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

MKazi is at your service.

I understand that you have an HP Photosmart C5180 All-in-One Printer and the scanning does not work in Win10. I appreciate your efforts in troubleshooting this issue and have certainly done a good job.

Is the printing fine from the computer?

Is the printer able to make a photocopy successfully? If yes then it indicates that the printer and ink cartridges are all fine.

While you respond to that. I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
  • Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

Please click here to download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor. This is a free tool that will detect and fix any issues with the printer drivers.

After running the HP Print and Scan Doctor, you may attempt to scan and check how it goes. If the scanning still does not work then let us uninstall the printer drivers from the root level and then reinstall them. The following steps will help:

NOTE: DO not plug the USB cable from the printer to the computer initially. You may first begin the installation and during the course of the installation it will prompt to connect the printer. And that is when the printer needs to be connect via USB to the computer and continue with the installation.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • You may click here to download and install the drivers.

Once the drivers are installed, you may attempt to scan.

Secondly, an alternate way to scan in Win10 is by using the HP Scan and Capture app. Click here to know more about the HP Scan and Capture app and how to install it for free.

I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Let me know how it goes. I'll be glad to assist you further.

Cheers! 🙂
