Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am unable to save scanned documents into folder, get an error message advising file not found, and to check file name.

Have used troubleshooter to fix any errors with software, but still will not save documents.

The Scan basics using the Full Feature Software Printer Assistant (shortcut icon on the Desktop named for the printer) are explained in the "how to" document:

How to Scan (Windows)

Double check your destination folder - this may be set at the default or it can be changed.

Read over the help / documentation.

If you like, the following software is likely compatible with your printer software, printer, and your Windows Operating System -- both of these programs provide some nice features.

HP Scan Extended – Exceptional free HP scan program:  Single, Multiple scans, image and PDF scans, Auto-Detect (extracts image / document boundary). Download, save, and install to use.

NAPS2 -- Not another PDF Scanner – free program scans PDF files and image(s) as .jpeg or PDF file(s).  Includes OCR.  Download, save, and install to use.

Have installed HP Scan extended, scanned document. It would only let me save scan to Local or Network folder.

This I did and could only find saved document in >Network>Folder Name>Users>my name, then cut and pasted to Document folder.

Seems a long way around, instead of just saving to a designated folder.

Yes, it does seem like a long way 'round.

In my experience, using HP Scan Extended, the destination folder can always be changed (Save To Folder).

I suspect I am missing something but I cannot tell you why you cannot change the folder destination in the HP Scan Extended program.

Network folder basics:

Network folders are those storage locations "outside" of your computer but still on your own network.

  • Map the network path to your computer using the IP address and folder structure of the remote drive (a NAS, for example).

Map_Network_Drive_2AMap_Network_Drive_2A

  • Make sure the network folder is "shared" (user has read/write access to the location)
  • Change the Destination to reflect the path to the network folder, using the "Drive" letter associated with the mapped path

Scan_Network_Folder_2Scan_Network_Folder_2

Local folder basics:

  • Local folders are part of the computer's hierarchy -- the destination disk can be "C" or any other drive letter that designates an internal (or USB connected) drive.  Unlike "network" folders, local disks do not have to be "mapped" since they are already recognised by the File System.
  • Change the "Scan to Folder" destination to match the drive letter and folder to be used to store the scanned data.

I am sorry you are stuck taking the long-road.
