Hi I had the same problem...when you connect for the first time apparently you must be almost on top of your wireless router!  I couldnt connect till i was within 4 ft of my router.  After that I had no more issues. Its not the router, mac filtering etc.....

There are a lot of variables and the TP is only one of them. The first time I connected the TP to WiFi I was in my backyard, which is on the opposite side of the house from where my router is located. There are (3) interior walls and one exterior wall + I was approximately 15-20ft from the house. The connection was instant and has been excellent ever since I got my TP in early July. I have used my TP in all areas of my two story house with excellent signal strength.

My previous router would probably have caused connection issues with the TP. It would connect fine to one wireless device but not to another that was sitting right next to it. Sometimes the device that it had no problem connecting to would not be able to get a connection and visa versa. When I changed routers that issue vanished, all my wireless devices connect all the time and stay connected for as long as I want them to.

Got my Touchpad delivered finally but could not connect to the internet ;(

I've tried several things just to find out that the Touchpad software is incomplete to handle WEP wireless security.

There may be bug in other security, too. Here's my workaround.

When joining a network, the menu shows 4 ways of network security (Open, WPA personal, WEP, Enterprise). But under WEP, there's no subtype while in the official WEP mode, there must be 2 subtypes (Open System or Shared Key).

When my router is "Shared Key". The Touchpad cannot connect.

Only when I change the router to "Open System" then it works.

I also noticed that before the WebOS update, there's only 1 WEP key to enter in WEP mode which is incomplete. After WebOS latest update, HP added entries for 4 keys.

To work around the WEP "bug", do 1 or 2 or 3 as follows:

1. Change your route's setting to WPA.

2. If you prefer WEP, set subtype to "Open System" in the router setting.

All other devices in the house must change accordingly.

3. Get a second wireless router, to connect only to Touchpad in WPA, WEP Open System so other devices don't need change.

Having the same problem, but i imagine it's a router side setting.  I connect to my home network(which is shared wep key) and have internet access no problem.  We have 2 wifi networks at work.  I connect to both fine.  One router loses internet every 3 mins or so, the other router has never loaded a single page for me.

My android phone connects to all 3 routers as well, but on the one work router, kicks me off every 3 mins just like it does to my touchpad.

I fixed this just there now. I changed my address to 192.168.1.46 instead of 192.168.1.4. This instantly fixed it after being broken for a week. I just changed from auto to manual in WiFi settings. It started by not working with gym WiFi and then my house WiFi would give me the same error. Weird.all good now :smileywink:

Something I noticed about using the internet on my TouchPad today... if one of the computers on my network was running BitTorrent, my TouchPad browsing was aweful. A whole bunch of could not reach host and other similar errors. The UI indicated I was connected with full signal strength, but browsing was virtually impossible. As soon as I turned BitTorrent off, TouchPad started working fine.

For those that are having connectivity issues with the Wi-Fi indicator showing good/full strength connection, can you check to see if BitTorrent is being used on the network. Also, if possible, turn off BitTorrent and test some more?

I'd love to see what the community comes back with on this.

Thanks for coming back to the thread. In my case, I have no bit-Torrent on the network and the problem is still happening.

Are there any network diagnostics apps I could use to capture logs to aid in diagnosis?

There is a Wi-Fi test in the Quick Tests, but I have no idea how to grab the results. You can also capture a log file as well, but I don't know how to read those either. :smileysad:
