NO do not delete the folder in there. I would like you to copy the address.mdb.bak to the address folder under your test username. Once there rename the address.mdb to address.old. Once that is done then rename the address.mdb.bak to address.mdb. Once that is done then open Palm Desktop.

If you need further instructions I'm going to PM you right now so you can seek phone support. This way there will not be any misunderstandings

HP Recommended

I copied and pasted it from its original name address mdb.bak into the address folder in Palm OS test.

 YOur next instructions were

Once there rename the address.mdb to address.old and then rename the address.mdb.bak

to address.mdb. There is no address.mdb file there

Here is what is in the  Documents  \Palm Os \ Test \ address folder

an address plain folder with 2024 KB in it   ,

address.db with 704 KB

address.db.bak with 704 KB

address.mdb.bak  with  2024   KM

and a UiPrefs folder

"  There is no address mdb to rename   address .old  "

I have followed your instructions to the T but some things that you say I should do are not possible!!

I have a feeling we keep guessing around and I am going to lose the little data I have left

HP Recommended
no guess. When you worked with Cygnus, you where not seeing the full file names at that time. If you do not see that you can skip that part. Since you are in a test username with the file still backed up since you copied in a back up folder.

The guess I am referring to is when you tell me to change the name of a file that does not exist .

You say to change  address.mdb to address .old when there is no address MDb. Just as a point of refernce the only address.mdb I have seen is in my User name and it

is the Icon with the arrow on it that says Microsoft access application . I do not think there is a address mdb  in Palm ver 6.2.2  with Vista . Maybe your info needs to be

updated because of Vista . I am just trying to help not trying to be critical but facts are facts and the facts you have are wrong IMHO

When I worked with Cygnus I changed the name from Address.mdg.bak to address before copying and pasting  it .He did not mention chanind anything aftyer  In any event it did not work .

 To quote Cygnus  "

To recover the file you have indicated, you cannot import the file and will need to rename it to address and copy and paste into the username folder-address. Use the same naming convention I had mentioned earlier. Rename the current address file to address.old or something other than address. Then paste the renamed file into the address folder.

You could create a test username in Palm desktop and do the copy and paste of the renamed file ionot that username folder to see if it restores the data you are looking for.

Regarding the access file, do you have an option to open the current file when you get the selection box

Do you have any other suggestions or do we give up.

If we give up be so kind as to tell me how rrto safely remove the test   user completly from my Palm to avoid any firther confusion

If you think I'm wrong then you are entitled to your opinion. I been doing technical support for Palm for over 3 years and seen the changes that came out with the Palm Desktop 6.2.2. If you seen it in your other username does it stand to reason that Palm Desktop 6.2.2 does use the address.mdb but this folder just does not have it? If you are an expert on this subject matter then you do not need me to help you with recovery of your data. I did give you a contact number so you can talk to someone over the phone on this issue.

If you want to continue to work with me that is fine. But please do not state I do not know what I am talking about. If you do not see that file or only see address and nothing else then skip that step I stated and move on. If you still do not see any data then go to users in the right and corner and hit the drop down. Select edit users, and then delete test. Create a new username called "testuser". Once that is done create a test contact under that user. Then close Palm Desktop. Then go to Documents/Palm OS Desktop/testuser/address. Once in here rename the address.mdb file to address.old. Then copy the address.mdb.bak from your backup folder to this folder. Rename this file to address.mdb. Open Palm Desktop.

OK I will try that . I am just saying that after choosing view all extensions that the file you tell me to change does not exist on my system, only in the place I mentioned with the icon with the arrow through it .

The reasn I thought you might not be familiar with this , is because Cygnus asked me to describe that file and tell hm what it said in properties  Maybe my Desktop is corrupted But I do not see what you tell me to look for.

I appreciate your help and will try your last suggestion

I did not say I do not see any other address folder I listed , with the size and type of folders the six I see in  Palm Os \Users\ test I just did not find the one you mentioned, namely  address.mdb.

Maybe this is created after an intial hot sync or something , but its not there now . Trying your latest info now

 I will let you know

Thx

HP Recommended

I did as you said . I deleted TEST and created  TESTUSER  I went into the Plam Os \testuser \address and again there is no address.mdb

So I cant do the "Once in here rename the address.mdb file to address.old. Then copy the address.mdb.bak from your backup folder to this folder. Rename this file to address.mdb. Open Palm Desktop."

Again there is no address.mdb file to rename . Now there are only 3 files I will describe them

address.db with the funny looking icon with the arrow on it that says Data file 704kb

address.db.bak  that a bak file with  704 KB in it

and last  UiPrefs.dat  Type Dat fle with 1KB in it

Maybe  my ver 6.2.2 is corrupt and thats why its been so buggy . It wont sync easy I have to open and close ht sync manager and do occasional soft resets all to sync with this dam Vista machine never had problems with XP ver 4.1.x

Did you create the contact? If so at this point I suggest you call in. Either I am missing something or there is something being lost though the post. I sent you Two PM's that has a phone number. The second one has the correct one. Call it so we can get your issue resolved
HP Recommended

I created a contact in testuser that shows on my desktop  but I did not sync anything . Maybe neither of us is wrong Maybe buggy Plam

Thx for your help
