I installed the win 10 preview by deleting all other partitions on the hp stream 7. Stupid me, didn't back it up. Will this bring me back to the previous version of windows 8.1 with a serial key like I had before?

Worked great for me once I was able to download the file from the link Trav provided.
Had to use a proxy to get it.
Directions were perfect, but make sure you get an OTG cable to hook up a keyboard, you will need it in one point of your installation where it asks what you want to do with the keys.

OMG .. I was searching ALL over the Net to fix mine 163 days sitting in the Box when I came across your post .. I did everything you listed except clearing the secure keys .. Thank you ..
FYI after I was able to do the Recovery .. doing the Normal steps starting new after the getting the updates stage I was informed that I was Qualified to get Windows 10 (No Brainer -- Yes) .. I am Getting the Download now while writing this.
(I used my own Recovery File that I thought was screwed, and aLogitech K400r keyboard on a 4 port USB hub unpowered)

Hi,
I am new... and I did the VERY stupid thing of trying to "reset to factory" the windows 10 TP I had been able to install with success... the result is that the tablet got struck...
I am downloading the recovery fron the suggested link and I already have usb powered hub and usb keyboard... I will try to follow the guide and I hope everything will turn out ok! 🙂
One question: after successfully recovering to windows 8.1, I will probably receive the note about the upgrade to win 10 (being an insider and so on..)...
The question is: how to have the "cleanest" possible installation of win 10??? I mean: since the disk space is low on the device... how to get it to delete win 8.1 forever as promised, while maintaining the keys for a licensed win 10 for that machine?
Many thanks in advance! 🙂

Since it is a WIMBOOT install, when you upgrade to Windows 10 it will replace the existing Windows 8.1 recovery files. So after installation you can perform Reset your PC option and it will still have Windows 10 installed and activated.

Thanks for Ur kind reply!
I have followed Your guide and it is installing windows 10 from the "recovered" windows 8.1 (used the file on the link You have provided), after having downloaded win 10 files from upgrade offer.
I will wait and see what happen.
One question remains: which language version will it install? I am italian and originally I had win 8.1 italian localized, which was followed by windows 10 TP in italian... but it failed to perform "reset pc" operation and I had been forced to follow your nice guide to recover back...
I have downloaded the "media creation tool" from Microsoft and created an usb image for Win 10 home italian (for my stream 7), will it be possible, once succesfully upgraded (online procedure) to windows 10 to perform the reset operation from the usb image created by media creation, to finally have windows 10 in italian and completely "clean" installation??
Will it recognize the licence keys? And will it complete the reset or will it give me the same boot problem that started the whole mess? 😉
