Hi,
I bought an HP Stream x360 with a (supposedly) 32GB emmc2 drive . When I first turned it on, I checked the storage capacity, it says it only has 21.3GB of which only 16GB is free.
This means, at FIRST switch on, I have lost HALF my storage capacity.
Can someone at HP please tell me why?? I'm beginning to think that HP are lying little bleepers.

YA!!!
Glad we got it figured out.
For everyone else this is what happened.
I connected with the OP and he continued to get low disk space warnings even after I helped him free up over 16 gigs.
When he would run the Media Creation Tool, it would evaluate the space required to run.
During this process, a splash screen would appear asking if he wanted to keep files and programs or delete everything and clean install.
This splash screen would only remain visible for half a second, then the evaluation would continue until it would stop and state more space (9 GB) extra was needed.
With the UI still on screen, I clicked the Back button and was able to choose Clean Install.
The installation went through now without a problem.
And Thisishardwork, I will private message you with the links we discussed.
Glad it is working now and thank you for being patient. 🙂

Someone at HP seriously needs to explain this to me:-
I buy an HP Stream x360 which, supposedly, has a 32GB storage device which is actually only 29GB (according the reply I got yesterday), has only 21.3 available upon first start up, of which only 16GB is free for useage. I install five programs (Firefox, SlimCleaner, Malwarebytes AntiMalware, Malwarebytes AntiExploit, and BitDefender Free), download and install Windows updates, and download the Windows 10 upgrade.
Windows 10 then tells me it won't install due to there not being enough space: It needs 9GB of space to install and only has 2.8GB free.
This means my Windows updates, upgrade download and five programs take up over 13gb of space?!?! SERIOUSLY????
So, either HP are completely disillusioned that this device can be upgraded to Windows 10 or they're lying through their teeth because there is something seriously amiss if Winodws updates and FIVE programs take up over 13GB of space!!!!!
Not only that, but they're also completely misleading their customers by selling this device as a 32GB device. It is a sweet FA device and HP need to talk to me direct about this. I have been a buyer of HP products for years and this is beginning to make me wonder if they have followed every other company I have come across in this country down the path of lying s***edness.
Now, HP can either contact me direct to sort this piece of c**p out or they can take it back and refund my money because I am seriously UNamused by this piece of c**p. Even the piece of used c**p no-name tablet I bought off ebay with the same sized storage capacity allowed an upgrade to Windows 10.. AND I have far more programs installed on THAT than I have on this ... So why won't this piece of c**p upgrade to Windows 10 and allow more than five programs???
Come on HP, time to stand up and be counted instead of rubbing your hands together in glee at all the money you have scammed your poor, unsuspecting customers out of!!
I eagerly await your reply, if you have the guts to.

Pretty common and depends on how you "calculate" the Gigs. Known marketing fact that they calculate with a factor 1000 instead of 1024. There are your missing 3 Gigs. And that's nothing new and nothing special to HP.
The rest is your business. You are free to clean the entire eMMC and install a clean copy of Windwos10.

Cyrex... LOL!
Thisishardwork,
HP Support and the Business Office does not monitor or respond to this forum.
Its volunteer run and I myself am not an employee.
But, if you are willng to play nice I will be happy to try to help explain things, but not at the expense of dealing with ranting and raving by anyone. You are misunderstanding how computers work and I will try to help explain it if you like. What you are seeing is how all computers deal with drive space, not just the HP brand.
Let me know and I will continue. Thanks.

Yes, many here have complained about low disk space on the Stream laptops and tablets after updates were applied. You might try a fresh install of Windows 10 following the guide here, that would get rid of the 7 GB recovery partition, you would have 19 GB remaining after the installation.
