Thanks fuzzatwork, your post got me searching around and theres a lot more options.
I've just ordered this $3.50 cable that should work, but there are lots of possible cables from $2.50-$100 which should allow charging and still use USB. I'll post once my cable gets here from Hong Kong.

Don't think you're going to get the charging you want with the cable. The notes at the bottom include the line "The micro port is not available for phone / tablet charging, this port is intended for the power supply of external USB products."

Good spotting. Missed that.
I started down the path thanks to this post about the Dell 8" Tablet that has a similar limitation - http://www.toddklindt.com/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=478
At worse you need to make a collection of cables do what we want. There are also other 3rd party cables that should work.

I can confirm that the:
OHCOME 2in1 Kits Micro USB Host OTG Cable with Micro USB
found on amazons site here:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MAJTTYC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
does NOT work.
The plugable Pro8 should work with Stream 7 according to their site of tested and compatible tablets listing:
http://plugable.com/products/ud-pro8
However to pay almost what I paid for the Stream 7 defeats the purpose but I need to find something.
My end use for this is a room occupany sign using outlook calendar and due to restrictions of accounts and wifi etc.. I need to have a hard wired connection for the network and to be able to keep the unit powered up 24/7 and also have windows as the OS.
Why manufacturers do not offer something to be able to charge and utilize the USB at the same time, be it an "extra option" or better yet add a seperate DC input for charging, boggles my mind.
If anyone finds a dongle that works to charge and allow USB, I'll take a dozen 🙂

Just following up about the plugable Pro8 working with Stream 7
http://plugable.com/products/ud-pro8
Yes, It does charge and allow the hardwire network which was my main need, as well as other things, to run simultaneously.
But as listed on plugables site if you reboot the unit needs to unplugged and plugged back in.

aloha again,
I tryed a Belkin powered usb hub,
It DOES NOT charge and see the usb drive. it DOES see the drive. I also can confirm the limit for the expansion card- Ive put a samsung 64gb in it and its working fine.
i wanted to use this as a media source for my car and need the powered usb connection. since I can put at least a 64gb micro in it. I can at least have a decent amount of music in the car.
anyway GREAT DEVICE. Im amazed at how it handels win 8. I never woulda thought that processor would be so snappy.
GREAT DEVICE HP. Im very impressed.
I didn have to expand the sliders width and a few other things to make it easier for my sausage fingers to press right. but all in all a great device and for $99?!?!?! i ordered 4 more for more rooms in the house.
