Every key would type "zz", even backspace and delete buttons.  I was able to use the online keyboard from the touch screen function, so just the hardware keyboard.  I got a failure with the keyboard components test so I opened a support ticket with HP to have my laptop shipped for repair (under warranty).  During the day I noticed my keyboard started working as it should.  Looking at a support reply from another post, it mentioned shutting down the laptop (not restarting) will fix it.  I must've done that inadvertently.  

 

If HP experts are see this post, can you guys notify Customer Support of this solution?  I was a day or so away of shipping my laptop and not having access to it for at least a week.  Thank you to HP for this forum.  This was very helpful and cleared up a bizarre mystery for me.  The original question with replies is here:
