ENVY x360 15m-bp111dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently picked up a new ENVY x360 (15m-bp111dx).  As it was replacing a laptop that had a dying screen, I wanted to move the SSD from my old laptop to my new one.  It's a Crucial MX100, which I know is a few years old.  But when I plugged it into the ENVY, the BIOS would only "see" it if I turned off UEFI and turned on legacy boot compatibility.  But even then, and hence the quotes, it wouldn't recognize that the drive was bootable or even an option to install Windows on, regardless of whether I had it cloned or whether I DISKPARTed it clean.  I had cloned the 1TB drive from the ENVY to it using Acronis, and I could see everything when I plugged the SSD into an external case on my desktop.  I even upgraded the SSD firmware just to rule that out.  Tools from Crucial confirmed that the drive was perfectly fine.

I realize that the list of supported SSDs in the manual isn't going to certify everything that ever was, but I'm struggling to understand why this laptop won't recognize it.  It's also making me leery of trying to find a new one that works as I don't want to pay the extremely high prices to buy direct from HP when I'm sure there's something on Amazon or Newegg that should be compatible.  Do I need TLC?  Or is MLC compatible?  And why would that even matter from a BIOS recognition standpoint?
