I have had this printer for about a year.
Today, using the HP Officjet 4650 interface I clicked on Manage Fax Settings. I was immediately greeted with "Authentication required" "To access the printer settings enter the printer password". I did not know that the printer had a password.
I opened Web Services in a brower. Under the Home tab it shows that every feature has been locked by the administrator. I am the only user and administrator on this computer.
I click on Wireless Setup Wizard (for example) and get a box saying "the server 192.168.1.24 is asking for your user name and password. The server reports that it is from admin". admin is alreay provided in the user name box.
I have tried every password I can think of, admin, 12345678, my HP online password, my computer's password etc. etc. After 3 attempts I'm told to come back later.
I tried to do a reset. The options are Partial Reset or Semi-Full Reset. I did the Semi-Full Reset. Printer started normally, I had to reenter the network password, all okay. Printer iis printing and scanning okay. But I cannot use the Fax Setup Wizard or manage fax settings or do anything at all via Web Services without a user name and password.
The Semi-Fulle Reset changed nothing. It did not remove whatever the password is in order for it to be recreated, not that I recall every being asked to enter any password apart from the wifi network one.
How do I get rid of this ***** password?
All help appreciated.
