Product: officejet pro 6978

I installed new ink cartridges and the screen said checking printer.  It was taking forever so i unplugged the printer and plugged it back in.  Then it said ink cartridges put in wrong position.  I took them out an put them back in.  Now the screen says printer error and to turn off the printer and turn it back on.  I do that and then the same message comes up.  What do I do?
