Because of HP's exorbitant prices I began using non-HP ink cartridges some time ago.

These worked fine until HP's smart software decided to disable my printer altogether: the ink cartridges are now retracted and can't be accessed at all (I can't even remove them); I get an error message: "non-PHP ink cartridges installed", and "clear paper jam etc" (there is no paper jam).

HP make no secret about their 'Dynamic Security' installed on all new printers - "Contains technology that may prevent cartridges with non-HP chips or circuitry from working now or in the future " - but it didn't tell existing users that their drivers would do the same thing to older models. (The HP Printer Driver I have installed is the latest one issued on 13 October 2017.)

It is madness that I cannot even remove the non-HP cartridges without taking the whole machine to a service centre.

I want to disable the HP software that is making the printer useless.

Can anyone tell me how to do that?
